Stocking up with No extra work!

As I posted earlier, we have had our first chilly snap.
So of course this means SOUP!!!

I planned on making the seasons first pot of home-made chili.
But plans changed when my good neighbor/friend Vicky came by this morning for a chat and somehow we began talking about chili and potato soups.... After our chat we both decided it was time for Potato soup and not the chili we each planned on making that evening. ;)

I have a very hard time cooking small. I never EVER cook for less than 10 people.. even though our family is only 7 people.. yes, 5 of them are men/growing boys.... But I always cook more than needed... Its just as easy to cook 3 gallons of soup as it is to cook one gallon, so why not?

We enjoyed the Loaded Baked Potato Soup last-night... so today I spent a few min making 8 single serving (well BIG servings) of the thick creamy meal for later.

One gadget that I have & I just adore is a "FoodSaver" vacuum sealer.
It just makes it sooo easy to save your food/leftovers for later.

I took the quart sized bags...
Filled em up w/ my yummy soup.....
sealed em......
labeled em.....
and threw em in the freezer.

Poof!! easy huh?
now there are at least 8 meals that are homemade. Take just minutes to prepare. And the quality is outstanding.

All one of the boys has to do is grab one of the bags.. and drop it into a pot of boiling water or pop it in the microwave to heat it up.

How easy is that??

This works great for just about anything.
I mean.. convenience foods are such a huge part of "everything in a rush" lives. Why not make your own? Its healthier, It tastes better, you control everything that goes in it, and its better for you! I know I feel so much better knowing my boys are eating a homemade healthy snack/meal instead of chemical filled sodium overdosing pre-packaged snack/meal.
You don't have to do anything other than cook a little bit more at each meal. It literally takes under 2 min to package it up and toss it in your freezer!

And hey!! it helps you when you are having a "Lazy I Don't Feel Like Cooking Tonight" mood. Your family still eats great. and you didn't do anything!

Or how bout those of you who only cook for one or two people?? You can eat like royalty with little work!! Lucky you!!

tonight it's gonna be meat loaf.... well 2 meat loaves... one to eat tonight.. one to save for later.

Ok.. that's it for my plug for FoodSaver, and no... I don't even work for them!
