The List.

As I have whined, bitched, cried, about , mentioned, the Man-of-My-Dreams is going to leave and work out of the country.
In Kazakhstan, as a matter of fact.
He leaves tomorrow. As in, less than 36 hours!

I am not impressed, neither is he...
But this job will be a good thing for our family.
He will be home every-other month, so he'll actually only be gone for 6 months working over the course of the year.

But.... BUT.... he's gonna be really REALLY far away!
In an attempt to freak out a little less, I have compiled a list of pro's and con's for this out of the country venture.

Lets see what I came up with...
And please! feel free to add your own.

Pro's about the Man-of-My-Dreams working out of the country.

1.) Career advancement.

2.) More income = can get some much-needed home improvements done.

3.) I hear frequent-flier miles are a good thing.

4.) I'll get the chance to surprise him with my weight-loss each time he comes home and see's the change. (I'm down 60lbs as of yesterday by the way! in less than three months! whoo hoooo!)

5.) We will save water! I will spend MUCH less time in the shower, if I don't shave my legs.
And... Why do I need to shave my legs if he isn't home? huh?

6.) I will be the one driving the truck!

7.) I will cook more Asian and fru fru meals. (NOT something he enjoys)

8.) I will control the remote!

Con's

1.) I will have no way to warm my cold feet. His warm feet work wonderful for this!

2.) I will have frizzy, limp & lifeless hair! Because there is no way I can rinse the conditioner out of my hair in the shower as well as he does!

3.) I'll have to schmoosh the spiders by myself!

4.) I'll be parenting solo... Without my Tag-Team partner.

5.) Paris, the love-struck cow, won't listen to me like she does him.. (her boyfriend)

6.) Who will remember it's trash day on trash day?!?

7.) I will actually have to get off my butt and fold the laundry by myself.

8.) I will miss him terribly.

*sigh*
THIS is gonna be interesting....

  1. Ack! I don't know if I could do it. I would miss my Hubs so much. You have a great list of pro's, especially the not shave your legs one! And the weight-loss each month. Just think of the look of surprise and his words of encouragement after each trip.

Another pro is that you'll be able to work on your communication skills, which is vital to a marriage. My Hubs and I started out as a long-distance relationship. We had phone and e-mail but didn't see each other often. Now there is Skype, etc, so that you can keep in daily contact. But when you only have a limited amount of time to talk, you talk about the important things. Which is really good.

    Good luck!

  2. Dana, Love the list my Hubs left in early 2004 for what was supposed to be a year in Afghanistan yeah right, he came home in late 2007. The downside for me was the twins were babies and Tootie was only 4 and with his job he was only able to come home twice a year for 15 days at a time. It was hard on all of us but we survived he's been home two years now, but is considering going back. There are alot of pros and cons the key is finding balance, making the most of the time you have together. The one thing that made it easier for us was getting a web cam and using skype with the time difference being so crazy I would let the kids stay up a little late and he would be just starting his morning but they got to see eachother and talk and it really made it so much better. Me and the kids made rituals of putting together care packages together for him of all his favorite things. Good luck with all of this, you will be fine. People ask me all the time how I managed for so long and the short answer is what else was I supposed to do it wasn't like I could just drop my kids off somewhere. Wish your husband a safe trip. And spend the rest of the time you have with him making it last till he's home again.

  3. YOU can do it! My husband did two tours in Iraq and I only got to see him for a total of 15 days each tour! And each time he was amazed my my weight loss which made the reunion so much better and LOTS of fun (if ya know what I mean)! Make sure to hug and kiss him lots before he goes!!

  4. I'm trying to decide which to focus on:
    - the TMI that MOYD washes the conditioner out of my sister's hair, OR
    - the logistics of that situation, seeing as your shower is freakin' small...

I'm so happy for you guys, actually. This is SOOOOOO much better than when he was working in Louisiana - he'll be home more than he's ever been! And when he IS home, he won't be tired from long working days - he'll be YOURS the entire time he's there!

    - your spoiled rotten, "city girl", little sister
