When Children say NO.

It might be a good idea to investigate things before you kill them.

Remember this kid who went to Boy Scout Camp last month?

Well.. when he came home he had made up his mind that he was now a "man". He was going to work without complaining, deal with sweat, and pitch in with the big boys.

Yesterday was his morning to feed the animals.
He went out.. and came back inside in less than 2 minutes.

"Mom", he said very matter-of-factly,
"I am NOT going to feed the animals today."
"Oh Really", I replied, "Yes you are."
"No Mom, I am NOT going to feed the animals."
"And why, may I ask, not?"
"If you want em fed.... You do it!"
I was beginning to get annoyed.
"If you want the animals fed, YOU have to do it.. and I'll come with you."
I realized something was up.
Out we went to feed the animals.
He fed the chickens, ducks, and turkeys...
No problem.
He fed the rabbits....

Then moved on to feed the donkeys and cows.
That's when he stopped....
"You feed them Mom", He said as he stepped back from the feed barrel.

I looked inside...

I don't know what his problem was....
I think he looks kinda cuddly & friendly..
Don't you?

No, I do not think he is at all cute. And I don't blame the boy. I wouldn't feed them either. What did you do? Margie

What I cannot believe is how on Earth did you manage to go get your camera and all, cause I'd be running away and screaming at the top of my lungs, arms waving, eyes wide open in sheer terror.
Not that I've ever done it.
Nosir. I'm as brave as they came.
Excuse me now, I have to go hide in a corner.

Oh, a opossum!
My daughter claims she wants an opossum for a house pet when she grows up. lol
My mother actually found her a stuffed toy opossum at a Cracker Barrel.
My Kathryn named her Paula... Paula the Opossum.

ugh... it isn't the opossum so much as just the fact that it was in the feed... it is like the summer we kept finding mice in the dog food... they'd fall in, or climb in, and not be able to get out. ewww...

He looks like he is giving you a big sweet smile before he bites a finger. Yikes!

A friend has mama & babies that come to her back door and feed on bird/squirrel feed she sets out. She says they have really soft fur. I won't say what the "boys from high school" when I lived in the country used to do to them. I once had one enter my home unbeknownst to me and kept wondering why (after I'd gone to bed) the cats were making so much noise eating their food - it wasn't the cats but a big possum that took 1/2 hour to chase out of the house with a broom! Dang varmints!

Ha- too funny! Found you on Mom Bloggers! I too feel like I'm living the Homesteading life now that I've moved to my home state of North Dakota - nothing but prairies and cows. Like your site!

:D

That's a possum playing possum. It's their natural reaction when they feel threatened, play dead.

Looks like he may have gotten his fill of feed then couldn't figure out how the heck to get back out! They are ugly but pretty much harmless, as long as you don't piss 'em off.

Oh yuck, yuck, yuck. See here I am, minding my own business, popping over from Mom Bloggers and I happen upon this post. I really dislike opossums, but I really like your very smart son.

I can't even imagine how you got it out of there. Did you have to throw out the feed? Oh yuck. Just the thought gives me the creepies!

Oh GEEZ. I hate possums. We had one trapped in our garage once and had to call the police to help us get it out. But even the policeman didn't want anything to do with it and he couldn't just shoot it. They totally creep me out!!
