Thank You and some questions answered

Wow!Thanks for all the support and offer of prayers y'all! It really means more than you could ever know.
To answer some of your questions....

Most of the critters are ok. I lost a lot of my poultry tho, either to the storm itself, or wandering dogs after the storm.

Our house.... we were very lucky!, it IS still standing & in one piece. But... a tornado blew a path right down the side of it. This lifted our bedroom up off of the foundation blocks and moved it over by about 4 inches. So we can't open any doors and there is a very obvious slope downward (kinda like the bedroom is fixing to fall off of the main house.

Our laundryroom/pantry/mud-room on the other side of the house is the same way, except it is actually torn away from the main house, leaving a 3 inch gap where the wall meets the ceiling.
Were we thought we had curled up shingles, we actually have buckled wood on the roof.

80% of the pipes under the house have been blown off of the house or came off when it shifted.

But the biggest problem right now is ice and gas.
We have enough gas to last us several more days for the generator (that we use to run the freezers a few hours a day)
and have enough ice to make it through today.
Ice.... we will need ice!!

everyone here does.
they are getting angry.....
and beginning to have a mob-like mentality.
a cooler of ice or a gas can looks better to most thieves right now that a diamond ring.

We keep hearing on the radio that ice and water trucks are coming and such and such time at the school...
everyone uses gas to get there to wait in line....
and no trucks show up.
This does not make for happy people.

Our new motto = You loot, We shoot.
it sucks.... but we have to protect our family above all else at this point.

all in all we are doing fine...
I can cook anything over a fire that I could cook in a full kitchen.
The kids are doing pretty well right now... We have no idea when the schools will re-open because they say 4-6 weeks with no power.
God smiled on us and gave us a nice little cold front to pass through yesterday.
Things would be awful in 100 degree heat!

Dana, you are an amazing person! Most folks would be crying in their beer over the situation you described and you seem to see the upside and have some humor about it all! Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way and hope you get some ice soon!

I am happy to hear that you are all doing well and sorry to hear of your home problems. I wish I could get some ice out to you. Living in Florida I know that feeling of needing ice very well. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Things will look up soon.

Praise God you came through safley. So many did not. Hopefully you won't have to shoot any looters. But if you do, aim well. HUGS and PRAYERS

Dana,

Oh I hate to hear about such damage and anger. I am amazed at your outlook. It goes to show how much you prepared is paying off. I wonder about those who didn't prepare and just left.....
My duaghter's teacher left last week to go down to Houston to get her daughter and she hasn't returned....the school hadn't heard from her either. We are worried.
Do you have somewhere you can go if you need to do so? Well, that was a stupid question....lotters and all...plus no gas....
I'm sorry.

The plight of our southern neighbors is really being felt and heard here in No Central Texas.

We've already got our first call to action so I'll be getting to a store later to buy the staples requested and drop them off at the arranged location.

I wish I could send you some ice.

Dana, I so wish I could get you some gas and ice. There was a commenter yesterday that said they could get you some, that it was just a couple hours. I'm assuming since you can post, you can check your comments too. Please, don't be too proud to ask for help. Through people is how God works His miracles. My heart hurts for you and your neighbors. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Please keep us posted especially as to your well being. Margie

WOW!I'm so sorry to hear about your house. I know how you feel about the lines and such. We finally are getting back to a more normal life 2 weeks later. They kept telling us 4-6 weeks for power, but we got ours back 10 days later. So you never know. I'll definitely keep you guys in my prayers.

I was grateful to have a natural gas stove and water heater. So we still had hot water and I could cook on the stove. The heat was miserable. My son just went back to school yesterday. He missed 8 days (2 days were Labor day related holidays). The state did a great job of getting the power restored and the kids back in school quickly. Take care and I hope you guys can recover quickly.

I have an award for your blog which can be found at http://www.thecajunblogger.com/

My prayers are with you and I couldn't image what you are going through. I keep complaining about my power being out in Ohio and we had some trees down from the strong wind and that is nothing compared to what you are dealing with. Glad to here everyone is safe and I hope life returns to normal sooner rather than later.

Oh i'm so glad most of your pets are OK. Is the damage to your house fixable? Will it leak if it rains? Oh my goodness if I lived close I would come over with a hammer in hand! I really hope you guys keep safe and that you can get some gas/ice,

I don't usally comment, but feel so bad for you guys..We had some damage here in NE TEX but nothing compared to yours..I wish there was something I could do to help..but we are dealing with a crisis now with my hubby having lung cancer and going thru chemo at age 76..the outlook is bleak for him ...so just count your blessings that no one is dieing before your eyes..i read your blog almost daily and enjoy it ..Wishing you and yours the best

Glad you're all safe! The storm reached Ohio at about 3:00 p.m Sunday. Devastating winds, but not near the damage done in your area. Most are without power for another 4 or 5 days. We only lost ours for 7 hours. Lost two trees and lots of limbs..we faired better than many in our neighborhood. Never had such ferocious winds and can only imagine what it was like there. God Bless You!

The important thing is that you're safe. But it still sounds like you're dealing with some really frightening issues. You will be in my thoughts. Definitely keep away from the angry mobs.

These things happen sadly. I am glad you have a positive outlook still considering the situation.

I am happy the animals are safe. Sending you some prayers over there. God bless and take care.
