You Might be a Homesteading Housewife If...

-- You can go to church, the store, and back home again wearing rubber boots. (and no one gives it a second glance)

-- You get a call at 4:30 in the morning from your neighbor telling you your cow is in her front yard, and when you show up to bring the cow home she has has a thermos of coffee for you. (the neighbor, NOT the cow!)

-- Everyone wants to come to your house for Thanksgiving, but their kids wanna come 2 days early so they can watch you butcher the Main course.

-- Your 4 yr old daughter passes by the pink Barbie Jeep in favor of the Camouflage 4-wheeler.

-- Your Christmas list includes a T-Post Driver, a wench for your 4-wheeler & a pig.

-- You have ever shouted the words.. "Get that Chicken out of the Kitchen & Shut the Door!!".

Okay, I have a "Where can I find it?" question maybe you can help me with. We have three turkeys ready for butchering. One of them is right at 43# live weight, he is the BIGGEST freakin' turkey I've ever seen. I have not been able to find a pot big enough to scald that sucker in...any ideas where I can find one? Maybe an idea for something else to scald him in if I can't find the world's largest stock pot?

Jenn... yes Ma'am! I I know just what to do. :) get a nice new metal garbage can. (non galvanized is best) and set it on the fire! there ya go :)

if you wanna be extra careful w/ a galvanized one if that's all you can find... light a fire in it to burn any left over chemicals out first.

Hahahaha I love it. I better have some kids coming over early to help us butcher turkeys.

I'm just gonna tell them they can't eat unless they help me pull pin feathers.

Dana,
Thank you! That's exactly the kind of solution I was looking for! And MUCH cheaper than those gigantic brewing pots I was being forced to consider. I was NOT wanting to drop $200-$300 on a silly pot just to scald a turkey!

I love your website. I live in the country and have cows in my yard sometimes and have to call the owner and they round them up. Haven't had a chicken in my kitchen yet-lolol Have had goats and chickens on my neighbors front porch looking in the screen door!! Love the country!!!
