Irrational Fears.... Part 2.

When I sit down to write a blog post, I write like I'm talking to my friends.
Because, thats what you are. Even though we've never really met.
I have told you things that I haven't told some of my closest "real-life" friends.

You are my Buddies,
My Homies,
My Peeps,
My Compadres,
My Pals,
My Amigos,
My Chums,
My Comrades,
Well... You get the point.

I've told you about some of my irrational fears in the past.
Like THIS POST about my very REAL fear of being killed by a deer and the moths that are really out to get me.

And THIS POST about ceiling fan that is just waiting for the perfect moment to cut off my feet.

Well, now I have another one...
Last week, I wrote THIS POST telling you about the mouse who has moved into my bathroom.

I found a dead mouse under my dresser, so I thought I had killed the little bugger.
Until the Man-of-My-Dreams saw another one run across the bathroom floor tonight!
grrrr!

Yes, having a mouse in your house is icky.
It's a little embarassing.
They are dirty.
They are smart.
But...
I have another BIGGER fear about the little nasty furry rodent in my bathroom.

I don't worry about it running at me.
I don't worry it'll bite me and give me mouse flu.

I cannot go into the bathroom without turning one the light and making a lot of noise before I cross the threshold because I'm worried I'll step on him.
Not just because it's an icky thought...

But, if I step on him, I just KNOW I'll break every little bone in his tiny body and one of the sharp, jagged, now broken ribs will puncture the bottom of my foot.
I'll be impaled by a schmooshed mouse!

OUCH! That'll hurt!
And....
How would I get him out of my foot??
Pliers?
(he'll be broken you know.... wouldn't peel off and out of my foot in one piece.
((shudder))
the thought is just too horrific to even write about!!

please tell me I'm not the only one with these stupid irrational fears...
What are some of yours?

Love your blog. Hate mice. I actually did step on a dead mouse once when I was a teenager and I will NEVER forget it, it was horrible, and disgusting. My sister and I shared a bedroom and we had seen a mouse in it, so we set a bunch of traps. The next morning, I opened the closet and stepped into it to get out something to wear, forgetting all about the traps, and felt something sort of roll under my big toe. I looked down to see my big toe on the leg of a dead mouse. The "rolling" I felt was the flesh moving over the bone. I thought I was going to throw up. I ran to the bathroom, and thankfully managed not to throw up. My sister thought it was the funniest thing she had ever seen. She said something about me being lucky that I didn't step on a mouse trap instead, but honestly, I think I would have preferred that. Sorry this was so long, anyway, good luck with your mouse problem!

discovering that i'm not the only person in the world who fears the nefarious schemes of moths is comfort to me.

rats are my other fear, thanks to a movie i saw when i was a kid. i can't remember what the movie was called, but it had aggressive carnivorous rats and i've been terrified of them since.

No matter how many times you try to defend yourself, your fear of puncturing your foot on a mouse's ribs is still bizarre. I'm sure it COULD happen, but it's still bizarre. And worrying about stepping on it is bad enough... why exactly do you need to make that fear worse by imagining the ribs through your foot??

But what can I say? I have a huge irrational fear of roaches (no scenarios quite so elaborate, though). Maybe having strange irrational fears of moving creatures runs in the family...

Someone is hiding behind the shower curtain, waiting to kill me when I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night!

Speaking of getting up to use the bathroom in the night, I fear a snake being in the toilet and biting my butt! I actually have to turn on the light and look in the toilet before I can possibly sit on it.

Mice startle me, but I don't go screaming like a willy nilly. What scares me (irrationally) is whenever I HAVE to sit on one of those outdoor porta-potties that something will come up from underneath and bite me in the butt.
I don't what's scarier: something that would bite me, or what the thing would look like that could live in raw sewage...

You asked.

(I see now that I'm not the only one with this weird fear)

Stepping on a mouse isn't that bad. Just a crunch, a squish and a little blood. Better the disgusting thing is DEAD! My irrational fear is closet doors open at night. Ever read Stephen King? Wish I hadn't! Was talked into reading a compilation of his short stories when I was in junior high. *Shudder* Never Again!

Oh! I definitely fear something lurking in the toilet at night, just waiting to bite my bum. I also hate looking at myself in the bathroom mirror at night. very scary
