Super-Cheap Living Room Make-Over (part 1)

This is the shelving Unit the boys and I built last week.
It cost a whopping $60.
(One final shelf will go on top when the paint is dry)

Unfortunately, my carpentry skills consist of little more than boards and cinder blocks. (think college dorm style)
So... that's what I used.
Well... cinder blocks, boards, denim squares, and lots & lots of glue.

I glued the various denim squares to the cinder blocks and transformed them into something that will match my denim furniture(and they look less cinder-blocky) and the denim quilt that I made a few years ago.
It ain't sophisticated....
But it sure is different and I love the way it turned out!

I also glued the denim quilting squares to the back and sides of the fist tank....
That hides the cords from the filter etc.. and I really LOVE the look of it!
So does Otis the killer Boston Terrier!
He spends most of his day trying to catch the fish.
More soon......

Crazy Alien Chives?!?!

So I was out walking around the farm this morning.
I was looking for more spring flowers to snap pictures of...
I stumbled upon these!

How strange they look!
Kind-of Alien-like huh?
I didn't have any idea what these strange flower-like things were that were popping up around my driveway.
I picked one to take a closer look.
Then the smell hit me... It was an onion of some sort! Chives maybe. I know what chives look like.. I plant them and love them I plant and love onions.. I used them both in cooking all the time.
But for some reason I have never seen them look like this.

Strange man.... Strange... So I sat down to ponder these new chives and before I knew it I had eaten about 30 of them.. yummy! "burp"

Now... I wanna plant some!

Anybody know what kind they are?

Sewing Challenge. (Make a skirt out of old jeans)

Here we go again!
Remember about a month ago when I decided to try making a whole quilt in a day?
Well, today I'm trying another sewing challenge.
This may not seem like a major deal to some... But keep in mind...
I am not much of a seamstress. (that's putting it very VERY lightly!)
I am trying to learn.... Come learn with me!
See these Jeans and this skirt?
there is nothing wrong with either of them.
But I want something different.
I'm gonna combine them to make a new skirt!
First cut the in-seam of the jeans.
Starting at the cuff of one leg up through the crotch and down the other leg.
Be sure to cut very close to the seam-line already in your jeans.
So far.. not hard at all.

Here they are with the seam all cut.
Not scary yet huh?

After your in-seams are all cut, you want to cut up the front seam.
I cut mine almost all the way up to the zipper.
(Note- don't cut quite that far! leave yourself an inch or so under the zipper.)

Next I pinned the two front edges together.
You'll have to over-lap your fabric on the top so the leg pieces will meet all the way down.
Just play with it... and pin it all flat.
(so far, so good!)

That looks Good doesn't it?
Now to recap, you have what looks like a skirt in front, but you still have a big upside down V cut out of the back. (don't worry, we'll get to that soon)

At this point I tried it on (Careful of the pins!! OUCH!!). It is wonderful! But. It is rather form-fitting. and I decided that I am too Plump, Fat, Bumpy, Fluffy, curvaceous, for a straight-line skirt. So Now I'm working on a fuller, Plan B.

Stay tuned for plan B. It's on it's way!!!

UPDATE

Plan B

Ok, I decided I have a little too much "me" to pull off a straight form fitting skirt.
So I did NOT join the two legs together to make a solid jeans skirt in the front.
What I did instead was make the front the way I was planning on making the back of the skirt.

I cut my pretty floral skirt in half and used one half to fill in the opening in the front of the skirt.
(the big Up-side down V)
I gathered the floral fabric so it would be flowie (is that a word?) then just stitched the whole thing up.
Here it is all sewn
(well the front of it at least.)

I have only broken 2 needles so far.
Denim is tough on those needles.!
So far, I think it's going GREAT!!
I'll be back soon with an update as I work on the back of the skirt.
Wish me luck!

UPDATE

I almost didn't come back to post this update.
It's not that I don't like the way the skirt turned out.
I do... I really do! I think it's cute!
As a matter of fact, my neighbor came over when I was trying it on and she loved it!
She even wants me to make one for her!

I sewed the back just like I did the front. I pleated it
(ok it's SO not a pleat, pleats are formal, pleats are what a seamstress would make! Its bunched up.. ok?? I bunched it up)
so it would flow pretty. Then I stitched it right on up.
It's better to run a double row of stitching so it's more stable.

Then I tried it on....
It felt good (like my favorite jeans)...
So I asked worker #3 to snap a picture of the back so you could see how it went together.

ummmm There is a reason you have not seen pictures of my backside...
ever...
never....
(I cried a little bit when I saw it.)
The thrill of my new cute skirt was crushed.
All I saw was
W I D E L O A D

I plan to snip any raw edges and let them fray a little bit.
And I need to cut it to the right length.
I'll post finished pics.
On a HANGER!! not my big ole butt..
no-one needs to see that again!

Once upon a time.....

there was a Homesteading Housewife named Dana.
She loved to play in the dirt and make things grow.
Her favorite thing in the world to grow was home grown heirloom tomatoes.

She would start her seedlings early each year in hopes she would get her juicy tomatoes at the earliest possible moment.
She would water them
She would feed them
She made sure they got the right amount of sunlight each day
and then she would place them out into her garden with great anticipation to let them grow grow grow.
They were doing wonderful outside in her garden.
Dana was very pleased.

This woman also loved her farm critters.
One day she looked into her rabbit pens and realized she has a lot of beautiful bunnies who were rather tame.
She had visions of cute furry bunnies hopping around her yard among her children.
It was a beautiful thought.
So, one day she let several of the cute furry critters loose to roam freely around her yard.

The rabbits were so happy to be free.
They scampered around the yard.
They would frolic with her cats.
They would follow her children wherever they went.

Dana loved to walk out of her door or pull into her driveway and see her beautiful bunnies grazing on the green grass.
People who came to her homestead were amazed to see tame bunnies wandering around freely.
They brought great joy to Dana's heart and she was pleased.

Until....
she realized what a truly horrible idea it was.

The next chapter to the story.... Dana Learns to container garden.
(in containers too tall for bunnies to reach!)

grrrrrrrrr

It's Official!!

Spring Has Sprung!!!!!!
Today I got the first sunburn of the season mowing my yard!!
whoo hooooo!

And I took a look around our homestead and lookie what I found!!

The first Yellow Rose of Texas in full bloom!
A pretty pink bud... I don't remember what it's called, So we'll just call it "Purdy"!
My Azalea bushes are COVERED in blooms/buds.
And the Jasmine... Oh the Jasmine... You can smell it from a mile away!!
I just love the smell of Jasmine!

Today the Tomato seedlings go out into the garden. I have always been told my the old-timers NOT to plant them until the pecan trees bud out. and I tell you what! It's true! Today I saw one tiny little bud on the pecan tree!! That's good enough for me!!!
Whoo Hoo!!!!

Spring is in the air!

I just hope it is here to stay!
The sun is shining...
I have my veggie seedlings all ready to go in the ground....

But with all the rain we have had the past several weeks, I can't till the garden because it's soup! grrrr

So I think I'll head on outside with the pruners and clean up the plants that need frost damage cut off of them.

I just love working outside when it's pretty!
But the mud? I could do without the mud.
before and after pictures coming in a little bit.

Oh and I'm putting the finishing touches on "Our Visit With Rita" part 4 tonight and it should be up tomorrow. :)!

A Mystery.......

See this Red Bucket?
This is where the mystery starts.
I found it in my laundry room... right inside our back door.
Having a little red bucket in your laundry room isn't THAT mysterious in itself.
But the fact that I have never seen this little red bucket in my life is.
I have asked everyone in the house... they have never seen t his bucket either.

hmmmmm.

Lets take a look inside...

There are eight black thingies in the strange red bucket.

Each of these eight thingies are sprouting...

They look kinda alien-like . Dontcha think?

In truth, I think they may be Walnuts. Even though I don't know anyone who has a walnut tree. But the mystery remains.... How did they get here? I asked all of the short people. They have no clue. So, I called my Over-all wearing father-in-law. Nope, he has no idea. I am thrilled to have Walnuts sprouting here to plant (if that indeed is what they are) But where did they come from?? It had to be someone who was comfortable enough to come into my house when I wasn't home. I have asked every neighbor I can think of.. no-one knows...

So for now, I'll thank the Wall-nut Fairy.

It Is FINISHED!!

Ok.... so it took me a little bit longer than a day...
But in my defense, I could have finished it in one day had I not taken so many breaks.
But 25 and a 1/2 hours ain't bad for a whole quilt!

Worker #4 loves it!
The fact that its flannel makes it super-schmooshy and super cuddly-warm.
And the fall colors and simple design make it perfect for a manly-man boy.
(oh don't let me kid you.... it's simple because I have no idea what I'm doing... But I'm loving doing it anyway!)

This is a close up of the raw "snipped" edges. after washing. See how cute they turn out? They curl up and get kind-of "fluffy". I LOVE the look of a rag quilt.
And it couldnt be easier to make! Even for a not-so-good-quilter like me!
I have gotten a few e-mails from other not-so-good-quilters asking me to make a picture based tutorial on how this super-simple quilt is made...
look for it in the next few days.

Oh.. this quilt and all my other attempts at learning to quilt can be found on my Quilting Page HERE.

Todays BIG challenge. (quilt in a day)

OK... it's nothing new when I say I am the queen of Procrastination Land.
Today I aim to fix one of the things I have been putting off....
Each of my boys has a quilt that Their wonderful, beautiful, Kind, benevolent, Mother.. (that would be me) made for them..... well... everyone but Worker #4.

I have had the super-warm flannel for his quilt for months.
I have had the matching thread for months.
I have had the batting for months.
I have had the sewing machine for years.

and yet.... he still has no quilt.

Today I am going to make a quilt.
A whole quilt.
Start to finish.
all TODAY!
(ok... half of the flannel squares are already cut from a fabric swap last year)

I am going to make worked #4's quilt in the biscuit style. They should go fast...
The question is.. can I make a whole quilt in one day??

We shall see....
I'll be back with updates and pictures....

Pray for me.
Pray for my fingers.
Or.... eat a piece of cheese cake for me ok?

it is now 7:03 am

5....4...3...2..1.. BLAST OFF!!!

UPDATE 9:58am

All the fabric squares have been cut!

Between getting the kids to school, feeding the critters & a visit from my father-in-law.. Things are moving now.....

Ok... now to cut the batting squares....

Wish me luck!

be back later!

10:46am... Have I ever mentioned that I HATE cutting batting??? Hand Lotion Anyone??

11:48am.... Lunch break.... I STILL hate cutting Batting!! (ok... I don't let my kids use the word "hate" I really realllly dislike cutting batting, I loath cutting batting, I detest cutting batting, I abhor cutting batting, I can't stand cutting batting..... should I go on? cause I can ya know! I really can!!)

2:30pm UPDATE... Everything is cut out. Now time to sew. I would have been MUCH further than this if I didn't have the 4 yr old Little-Foreman-in-Pink "helping" me. Oh and if I hadn't stopped 47 times to cry about how much I dislike cutting batting.

7:00 pm UPDATE.... Well, things slowed WAY down with 4 kids coming home from school. I had to go pick up worker #2 from Drivers ed, cooked and ate dinner. But, I finished sewing all of the individual squares together!

Now the shower assembly line is starting. While the dirty short people get clean, I will begin to sew the squares together into a quilt! whoo hooo!! we are in the home stretch!

Here is worker #4 arranging the squares to his liking. He is excited!

9:42pm UPDATE- OK.... now comes the time where we must ask ourselves... What is the definition of "finished"? Worker #4 is indeed sleeping under his brand new schmooshy warm flannel quilt. BUT I am making this quilt a rag quilt. And for it to truly be finished, I have several hours of snipping of the seams to make em look worn & frayed. It IS together.

I COULD leave it this way. Altho it would look kinda funny. I guess I didn't really, totally, completely, 100% finish the quilt. But it's together! He is sleeping under it. Does that count? Whatever the verdict... I am proud of myself for getting this thing done (sortof kinda almost)

Pictures tomorrow. I'm goin to bed. Nite Nite

7:00 am 2/20.... snip snip snip snip snip snip snip snip snip **sigh**

8:30 am FINISHED!!!!

This is worker #4's quilt! roughly 24 hours after I started it. As you can see, I snipped all of the seams. To get the desired effect I just threw it into the washing machine.. this will help the edges fray and curl up a bit. Here is a picture of it BEFORE washing. I'll post the washed picture after it comes out of the dryer. Whoo Hoo!! I am proud, if I do say so myself!

SPRING is coming!!!!!

Seed catalogs are starting to arrive in the mail!!
I just love it when the seed catalogs start to come in the mail!

I spend hours and hours looking through the pages.
Drooling with the thought and the possibilities.

Planning my perfect garden that will be weed free, and produce enough fresh nutritious, wholesome, food for my family.
Not only enough food for us to eat all the fresh veggies all summer that we could ever want, but enough to can/freeze/put up for the rest of the year!

Ohhh the dreams....
Ohhh the possibilities.

I make lists....
I get out the graph paper to plot out my garden.
I position the plants (well really color coded dots on the graph paper) according to heights and sun requirements.
I figure out which veggies help feed other veggies (carrots love tomatoes).
I start to plan what kind of pretty ornate things I can gather for my pole beans and cukes to climb.

I plan the perfect garden.
I plan a beautiful garden.
A garden that will make my neighbors stop in awe as they pass by.

I do this every year.
It's a wonderful time of year!!

I just love it when the seed catalogs come!!

now....
can anybody tell me how to actually follow through with my grand plans?
In reality...
I plant this "perfect garden"
then Life happens.....
I don't weed as often as I should.
I don't pick the stink bugs off of everything like I should.
The cow gets out of her pen and visits.
and my beautiful garden (on paper) becomes a thing of shame.
My mother in law comes over to glean some green beans and peppers and leaves in disgust, unsure of how her son managed to find a woman who can kill zucchini.

I have books & books on perfect gardening.
I read em all.
But somehow never quite get it right.

But the seed catalogs are here!!
This brings new hope!
This brings new dreams!
More pages of perfectly drawn out plans!
This brings new dreams!

Things are perfect!!........ for now.

I finished!!!!! BMA?? NOT Today!!!!!

Finally...
After many tears, bloody pin-stuck-fingers, ripping out of seams, pouts, tantrums, prayers & prodding from the Man-of-My-Dreams. Almost a month after I promised it for worker #3's birthday...

I finished his quilt!!
This quilt should have been the easiest quilt ever! (its nothing but 6" squares sewn together for cryin out loud!)
But if I could do something wrong making a quilt.. I did it on this one!
This one that has been my nemesis.
It should have gone together lickity-split and been over and done.
But it was plagued with problems.

You'll remember my boo boo with this one.... **sigh**
It was just one of those quilts that everything seemed to go wrong.
I'm not too crazy about the way it turned out.

But he slept with it last-night and loves it! whew!!

Now on to worker #4's quilt.....
it's gonna be a rag style quilt made from Fall flannels.
Maybe my luck will change...
Pray for me.... and the quilt.

Treasure Hunting! (geocaching)

This week-end, my Spoiled-Rotten-Little-Sister the kids and I started a new hobby.

Treasure Hunting!!
Nope, we didn't pull out the eye patches and buy a parrot or get a boat.
We started Geocaching!

From Geocaching.com-
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

This was the first cache we found.
It contained a log book, several trinkets to trade, and oooh the the excitement!!
this one had a Geo-coin!!!
("Geo-coins" or "Travel bugs" they each have a unique serial number on them. when you find one you log the number and location on geocaching.com, and leave it inside another cache for someone else to move. Its really cool cause then you can track that particular geo-coin and see where it ends up. They go all over the world!)
We decided to take the flashlight and leave a deck of cards.
and we took the geo-coin to relocate in our next cache.

I was amazed when I first heard about geocaching because it is such a HUGE deal all over the world and I knew NOTHING about it! There are thousands of geocachers all over the world!
I did a search using my zip code on geocaching.com and found 122 caches within 10 miles of our farm! We are in a TINY town!!
They are everywhere!! And I had NO clue!
Most caches are left in a place that is cool to see, has a great view, is historical, or just a out-of-the-way spot you'd never find otherwise.

We found 7 yesterday. Several were in some really old cemeteries. Beautiful peaceful surroundings. It was really cool to walk around and learn about our area.
A few were in little parks that were tucked away and I had no clue existed.
Two were near historical markers, so we learned some things about our area's past.

Its a great way to get exercise too!
Some caches are really well hidden, some you find right away.
Some require a several hour hike through the woods.
Some (all they we found) were within 100 feet of where we parked our car.
Some are tiny as a pill bottle (sometimes even smaller!), and some are larger Rubbermaid plastic tubs.
Its exciting to search and find them!
All you need is a handheld GPS unit, internet access (to find the coordinates on geocaching.com). and your off!
Geocaching is a GREAT family activity that costs very little to no money (once you get your GPS unit , Thanks Mom! Happy Birthday to me!!)
Young and old can enjoy getting outside and exploring your area.

Each of the kids found one of the caches, you should have seen them beam with pride! Mom found a few too! Oh yeah.. My Bratty-Spoiled-Rotten-Sister found one too!

Now the kids and I plan to put out some of our own caches for others to find.

I'll keep you posted about our geocaching journeys...
If your looking for a great family fun thing to do ... I strongly suggest Geocaching!!!!

My secret weapon

I have never gonna say I am a great homemaker (hey I'm working on it!). My house is often a clutter-on-every-horizontal-surface kinda place. (who am I trying to kid.. it's ALWAYS a clutter-on-every-horizontal-surface kinda place!). I don't dust nearly enough. Mt Laundry often gets away from me.

TIP#1 = Never ever turn off your ceiling fans and no one will know they look like they are wearing fur coats! (my power went off the other day... and I saw them for myself. Oh my!)

TIP #2 = If someone comments on your impressive dust, just tell them that it is your thrifty idea to protect the patina on your antiques! (I am sooo smart! or pathetic... But I like to think its clever and smart.).

Anyway... my point, (yes, I do occasionally have one.) On those rare occasions that I feel the urge to clean and do all the needed housekeeping things I do have a secret weapon... My Apron!

An Apron?? You ask.. Yes, My apron, I answer. Before you click away and decide I have finally lost my ever-loving mind... listen to why...

#1 - I am a messy cook. I wipe my hands on my pants, skirt, shorts, undies (whatever is on my hips at the time.). My apron makes it ok. Now, don't get me wrong, I am SOOO not the 50's cliche June Cleaver-type wearing my best dress and pearls while I clean. Far from it! (I'm lucky if I remember to brush my hair little-lone have full war-paint perfectly applied!)

#2 - I actually get more done when I am wearing my apron. I really do! I don't flop down on the couch and veg out watching Dora The Explorer with The Little-Foreman-In-Pink. I keep busy. Now, I know this may be because I am simple-minded and just need a uniform to complete any task.. but it works for me.. it really does! (My hubby would be happier if I wore it a little more often... this place might be dustless once before we die!)

#3 - This one is going to be hard to believe.... I warned you. Someone needs to alert the media and do a scientific study as to why... But... My kids listen better when I have on my apron. Maybe it's because they know I am serious and mean business with whatever I am doing when I have my apron on.
Maybe it's because my apron makes me look more "Mom'ish" I don't know. But it is true.
Maybe it's because they want me to get done with whatever I am doing even if it means they have to help just in case their friends stop by, maybe then I'll be apron-less for them. (because you know I do it just to embarrass them! that's my sole purpose in life, ask em... they'll tell ya!.)

When my family and I did the Wife Swap TV show, that was one of the first things I did when it was my time to make the "rules" I wore my apron and got some for their girls to wear too!
I have several aprons.
Plain Aprons
Fancy Aprons
Frilly Aprons
Denim Aprons
Apron Sets (for myself and The Little-Foreman-in-Pink)
I have a garden apron
and even a matching bucket apron for gardening.

I use my aprons for cooking , cleaning, gardening, working outside (have held more than one hatching chick in a deep apron pocket), I can carry several missed-the-first-time cucumbers & peppers & tomatoes in my apron pocket. Or I can bring in the whole crop by holding the bottom up hammock-style!

I have wiped dirt from noses, blood from skinned knees, even snotty noses of the young ones around here with my apron! It's a really useful tool!

And did I mention you can hide a pretty impressive fat roll with the correct apron!?
That's reason enough for me!

I am not the only one who is fond of the apron... I found a few poems about them too.
And if its good enough for people to write poetry about, it's gotta be a good thing!
Aprons used to be commonplace, because they are useful! Get yourself a good full apron and see if it works for you as good as it works for me!!

I double-dog-dare you!
Some of my everyday aprons
(please don;t look at the messy bedroom! I may need to put an apron on and get it cleaned!)
This one is my favorite everyday apron. It looks like a quilt!
My Bucket Apron stuffed with several other aprons.
(I also had a matching garden apron made to go with it, but its in the washing machine)

One of Our matching "Mommy & Me" sets.

This one is my favorite half apron.

(I just love the detail on the edges!)

Apron Poems

Grandma's Apron
I can still see grandma's apron
she wore most everyday. At night time it was folded and,
on the foot of her bed it lay.
She wore it to protect her dresses,
from all her daily chores.
While washing all the dishes and scrubbing all the floors.
The memory of all her aprons are with us day to day.
With their many faded spots Where she dried our tears away.
Some are torn and tattered from many years of wear.
Showing we will always have her precious love and care.
The colors in the rainbow aren't really from the storm.
They're just our grandma's aprons through her years,
"were proudly worn."
author = Ruth Stuart.

------------------------------------------------

Grandma's Apron

The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath,
but along with that, it served as a holder for removing hot pans from the oven;
it was wonderful for drying children's tears,
and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken-coop the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks,
and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came those old aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids;
and when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow,
bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling-wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden it carried all sorts of vegetables.
After the peas had been shelled it carried out the hulls.
In the fall it was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road,
it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out on the porch and waved her apron,
and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields for dinner.
It will be a long time before anyone invents something that
will replace that old-time apron that served so many purposes.

Oops!

Just another reason I'm a founding member of the BMA's. **sigh**

As I told ya before, I had to finish
I read about an easier way to put a quilt together.
I said to myself....
"Myself, Easier and faster?? This is for you!!"
Instead of messing with borders and binding, you just sandwich your top, batting, & backing together (kinda like in inside-out pillowcase) sew around three sides, then turn the whole thing right side out and POOF a beautiful quilt w/ no messed up boarders or binding!
I did IT! whoo hoo! It was indeed easier!
This is the way I'm gonna do all my quilts from now on!!!
Isn't it pretty???

Note to self....
next time,, You might wanna think a little bit more about the order you layer your pieces!!

In the words of Homer Simpson...
Doh!!!!

Pig Gardeners!! (Rant of the Day)

No, I'm not talking about "messy" gardeners...
well, wait a minute, maybe I am!

I just don't understand it.
Why Oh Why is it that I can plan my garden for months,
Compost the land, sweetly and carefully care for my seeds and seedlings,
give them the proper amount of water & let them enjoy the fresh clean air and warm healthy sunshine, carefully weed them, and pick off any invading bugs, and inevitably something will happen and they will die?!?
Or, If they don't die, they don't flourish really well.

And all my pigs have to do is be a pig and they produce Tons of beautiful veggies?!?!?

Case in Point....
The Pigs went to freezer camp about 3 months ago.
I was walking in their old pen today to check things out and see if the grass was growing back there and LOOK what I found!!!

Beautiful huh? **humph**
All the pigs did was eat the pitiful cucumbers that I grew and they create this?!?!?
This does NOT seem fair!!
These plants were not watered!
These plants were amongst weeds!
They were well fertilized.. that's it!
This cucumber is laying on a standard-sized roll of paper towels...
Well at least I get to eat the "fruits of THEIR Labor" now!
But It DOES bother me that their garden is better than mine this year!
And it's NOT just cucumbers!!
Look at the tomato plants that are all over the pen too!
Does this seem fair to you??
I think Not!!
Next year I'm just gonna let the pigs do all the work!
And I'll just wait for them to feed me!! We'll see how THEY like it!

Texas Renaissance Festival 2007

This week-end we went to one of our favorite yearly outings.
We stepped back in time at

My sweet Brooke was all excited,
I had visions of her wanting to be a pretty little wood fairy,
or princess, or something like that....
But nooooo My girly girl was all excited to find a dragon! lol
she got one
(at least it was a rainbow dragon)

The Ren Fest is just one of the best places ever to people watch.
Where else in one day can you see armored men walking around?

Or, have a group of Beautiful Ladies in Waiting sing for you?

and of course the "Ladies in Waiting" have their very own
"Fellas in Waiting"

There are beautiful Greek gardens.

Brave knights jousting for their King.

And many many other weird and wonderful characters.

Some are very strange....

and some are even a little scary.

They have very detailed costumes.

Some aren't even in costume....
They look like this every day!

If you have a chance to attend a renaissance Festival near you GO!!
Its great! everyone dresses, speaks and acts as if they are in that time.
Its great fun for both old and young.
And at the very least you'll get an eye-full of very interesting people.
