Without Me

See this beautiful little girl?
The one with the freckles (or sprinkles as she calls them), dirt smudged on her cheek, and the red Kool-Aid mustache?

She is my baby.
She is my only girl.
She is the end of the line.
She is my heart. (yes, so are her brothers "rolling eyes")

This morning, this sweet little girl transformed into a big girl.

She started school today.

Gone was the red mustache,
Gone was the dirty face,
Her hair was neatly brushed,
Her grubby hands were clean,

She was so excited to start this new adventure.
She couldn't wait to ride the big yellow bus.
She wanted to eat lunch out of her new lunch box.
She wanted to meet her new friends.
She wanted to learn...

She was ready to leave.....
... me.
As we walked into her big school, we saw a rainbow. (look really hard in the picture)
We decided it was a sign that she was gonna have a GREAT day.

And she did....
... without me.

Why do they mock me?

First, it was the Sonic Car-Hop who brings me a Cherry Coke every stinkin time when She and I both KNOW I ordered a DIET Cherry Coke.

Then it was the UPS man who came to deliver my much anticipated package that required my signature the second I went into the bathroom and couldn't hear him honk his horn.

Then the fat-woman-clothes designers who, for some reason, think that every woman who is larger than a pencil wants a big gaudy flower or horizontal stripes across her chest.

My teenagers... Nuff said.

Now THIS?!?!

He Melts My Heart.

My sweet baby boy.

There is nothing more heart-wrenching than seeing him grow up.
Soon, he'll be an icky, hormone-filled, moody, smelly, teenager.

Until then, I'll just inhale his adorableness.

Introducing..... JERKY!

Today is an exciting day!

I have spent the past three days obsessively checking one of my cows butts.
I know, I know, that sounded weird.

But, you see, The smarter than your average cow, Hershey, managed to escape her pasture on Halloween last year and decided to "frolic" with our neighbors Bull.

Um, yeah.... I swear I didn't raise her that way!
So, in classic After-School Special style, she found herself young, unwed and pregnant.

It took some time, and it took a lot of love, but we came to embrace the life growing inside of her.
We HAD to be there for her!
I mean... That Dead-Beat Bovine next door never even gave her another look!

After months and months of waiting.....

Let me introduce...

"Jerky"

Ain't he cute?

Here is the proud Momma with her new
"bundle of bull"

Hershey is being a very good Momma.

And we happen to think he is adorable!

Well... everyone thinks he's adorable except his Aunt Paris...

I think we may have made a bad decision letting her witness her sister giving birth...

She has been hiding in the bushes for three hours!
Oh well....
Maybe she'll remember that when she gets in the mood to "frolic".

You'd think I'd be better at this by now.

Today was one of the days I've been waiting for.
The Little-Foreman-in-Pink officially registered for Kindergarten.

This means that in two short weeks, I'll get the opportunity to sit in the bathroom without anyone knocking on the door and looking for me.
I'll get to have more than a three minute phone conversation without being interrupted.
I'll get to finish a cup of coffee with chocolate creamer without having to share "just a little sip" with anyone.
No Dora the Explorer.
No Tinkerbell.
No Veggie Tales music playing in the background.

I'll be alone!
It'll be quiet!
It'll be amazing!!

We went to the school to do her paperwork.
I was ready.
I was excited!
I was prepared!
I had her shot records, birth certificate, proof of residency, my ID...
everything we needed to turn her into a real BIG GIRL who goes to school.

Everyone has been asking me...
"How are YOU going to handle your baby going to school?"
I, of course, said I would be fine and I was more than ready!

Until....
I asked when we would find out if she has morning classes or afternoon classes.
(the boys always had half-day Kindergarten)

"Oh, we don't do half day anymore... They go all day, just like the bigger kids."

With that... I burst into tears.

I'm almost certain I saw her note the file that I was gonna be one of "those" mothers...
You know, the problem ones?
The amateurs who have never done this before?..

...Um.... Yeah.... thats me.

Have I Ever Mentioned...

That my first baby shower,
For my first baby,
Was thrown by my mother?
It was held at her house.

My Grandmother was invited.
So was my Grandfather.
And my 12 year old sister.
And everyone we worked with at the psychiatric hospital was there too?

And....
Did I mention there were strippers at my baby shower???

To make things worse....
The strippers looked like ...

Andrew Dice Clay and Prince?
The Prince stripper was a co-worker of ours at the psychiatric hospital.

Um.... Yeah....
And I wonder why my kids are strange....

Summertime

Most of my childhood memories are simple memories.

Snowsuits, decorating sugar cookies, hiding under the huge Rhododendron bush in our front yard, catching Honey bees off of the crab apple trees, Chinese jump-rope, 4-square, Nancy Drew, Sleep-overs, Swing-sets, Boo Berry Crunch, catching Lightning Bugs, collecting buckeyes, ice cream trucks, catching frogs, picking blueberries, blowing dandelions, sneaking red currants until my tummy hurt, climbing trees, ghost stories, and running through the sprinkler.

To name a few...

I've worked hard to make sure my children have the chance to make these kinda of simple childhood memories for themselves.

Yesterday the poor, sheltered Little-Foreman-in-Pink got to venture out and experience water-play that involved more then our small fishing pond or my garden sprinkler.

Our little town park built a zero-depth water play area and we finally got away from the farm to check it out.

There were lots of different colored tubes and gadgets, each one spraying or pouring, or shooting water in various directions and patterns.

She had a blast!

Well... she had a blast once she got over the shock of realizing there are other children in her part of the world who were close to her age and did NOT live in her house.

Is there anything better than cold water-play on a hot summer day?
I think not...

Well....
That Ice Cream Truck would have been nice too...
Maybe next time.

It's a good thing they had cute Band-Aids... because her Mom STINKS at comforting her.

So, the Little-Foreman-in-Pink starts school this year.
This means that, among other things, she needed to be up to date on her immunizations.

Now... I'm not gonna tell you how important vaccines are.
I'm not gonna tell you they are bad and you should avoid them either.
I will tell you that, being the excellent mother that I am, she was a little behind in her shots.

The state of Texas also decided to add a few new boosters to the shot regimen this school year.
When the Dr was done, she informed us that my baby needed 5 shots.
FIVE shots! At ONE time!
Not good.

My girl was ready. She was determined to be brave and withstand any torture she has to take to be able to be a big school girl and ride the BIG YELLOW school bus.
Riding the bus is the COOLEST thing in the world you know!

She was NOT gonna cry.
She knew shots earned her ice cream after her Dr visit.
She knew shots earned gave her the right to go to school.
She was actually excited!

... Until the nurse walked in with the shots.

"I don't want 5 shots, I want two shots." she announced.
of course, that was not possible. She needed each of the shots.

She sat in Worker #2's lap.
I hugged her so she wouldn't look or involuntarily strike the poor nurse who was already upset with the fact she was going to turn my cute 5 year old into a pin cushion.

The nurse worked FAST assaulting her thighs with sharp instruments of pain.
She didn't cry, technically...
She did yell for help. She yelled for help LOUD.

And what did her wonderful mother do?
I burst out into nervous laughter.
I couldn't help it!
I was seriously convulsing in laughter while hugging her.
My poor baby was scared. She was in desperate need of her mommy to comfort and sooth her and all I could do was laugh!

I wasn't laughing AT her, really I wasn't, I couldn't help myself.
It was terrible.

I'm sure the nurse went home and told her children how lucky they are to have her as a mother instead of the evil shrew who laughed at her child who was in pain today.

and....
The Little-Foreman-in-Pink got a DOUBLE scoop of ice cream.
That makes it all better right???

Oh, who am I trying to kid?
Just one more thing for her to tell her therapist later in life....

... I suck.

Sprinkles

After raising 4 boys, this little ball of girly-girl energy is so refreshing!

She came to me this morning very excited...
"Mommy!" she yelled,
"I have Sprinkles!!"

Sprinkles....
Um... ok?

I had no idea what she was talking about.
After much thought I finally realized.

Sprinkles = Freckles in girl-talk!

Whoo hoo!!
I may get this thing figured out yet!

They Were NOT Looking For Me.

One of the fun things about having my own website is the fact that I can see the Google search terms that people search for that leads them here.

This week we have had some doozies!
I really don't think most of them were looking for me!

These were some of my favorites.

"How to Convince my wife to swap" = lead them to This Post ...
Oh dear. I don't think I helped this poor guy out a bit., Darn!

"Meet Cheating Wives" = This Post ...
Um.... yeah....

"Jeans and Skirt Housewives" = This Post ...
Huh?

"Wife Swapping Videos" = This Post
... Here we go again...

"Exploding Housewife Video" = This Post ...
What in the world?!?!? Nevermind.. I don't think I wanna know!

"cheap farms for sale" = This Post ...
Sorry, we decided to stay and tough it out.

"make your own chocolate caramel condensed milk" = This Post ...
NOT what I made, but sounds yummy!

"Show to tell when steak is cooked" = This post ...
Now, THIS is MY kinda post!!

I wonder what Google will bring this week?...

Things that haven't died.

This summer we have had the worst drought I can remember!
Seriously, we've had less rain than they had during the Great Dust Bowl of the 1930's!

I've had trees die,
My garden died,
grass is dying,
everything seems to be parched beyond repair.

Just when I was about to give up on pretty alive things on the farm, I stumbled upon these beauties.
For some reason they make me happy!

They give me hope!

But, they don't give me fresh veggies. "sigh"

There is always next year...
